Registering with ABT.com

Although anyone can view the tabs at any time, you must be registered with (and logged in to) AvettBrothersTabs.com to create and edit tabs. This protects the site from malicious activity and ensures high quality tablature. To register, simply click the “Login” button at the top right of this page. Create a username, enter a valid email address and you're finished. Your email address will never be sold or distributed, and you will never receive junk mail of any type from AvettBrothersTabs.com.

Editing and Creating Pages

Editing Pages

At the top of this page is a row of tabs (not the guitar kind!) one of which says “edit this page.” Clicking that tab will allow you to do just that (except for certain pages, like this one, which are locked). Once you click the edit tab, a text window opens similar to the kind used to compose an email. What you type in this window is what appears on the page. Simple as that.

However, since we will be doing tabs, it is just slightly more complicated than that, but still pretty easy.

First of all, you must manually enter line breaks.

This is the symbol for line breaks -> \\

For example, by typing this:

I am a breathing\\
time machine\\

You get this:

I am a breathing
time machine

Without entering line breaks, the text will appear in paragraph form. Since the majority of the text on this site is lyrics, we want it to appear in stanza form. This necessitates line breaks. Line breaks are only necessary when composing lyrics.

Tabs are best written in what's called “monospaced” font. This makes the tabs line up nice and neat and makes them easy to read. Luckily, the editing window has a little feature that makes this possible.

To compose in monospace font, simply indent each line two spaces from the left edge of the text window.

This is what you will get by spacing twice.
e------------7----
B----------6------
G--------5--------
D----4------------
A------2----------
E--3--------------

Note: When creating a box like this, text and tabs will appear in one long line unless you enter line breaks. However, in a box like this you can simply press the return key instead of using the symbol for line breaks.

See how nicely those tabs line up? That's much easier to read. Some good examples of these “tab boxes” are Me and God and At the Beach.

Creating Pages

What if a page doesn't exist? Simply create a new internal link (see below) to the page you wish to create, and click the link. You will reach a page which reads “topic does not exist yet.” Click the “create this page” tab at the top of the window to open the text editor. Voila!

Linking to Pages

There are two types of links: internal and external links. Internal links are links to pages that exist on AvettBrothersTabs.com. This type of link is the one most frequently used.

To create an internal link, click the button to the right of “H5” in the editing window. Then simply type the name of the page you want to link to. For example, this:

[[Sorry Man]]

Give you this:
Sorry Man

Substitute the name of any song or album to link to that song or album's page.

For example, suppose there was a song missing from the A Carolina Jubilee album page. Simply click the button to edit that page, insert an internal link to the new page, and type the name of the song. Since the song you typed doesn't exist yet, the link will appear in red. Click the link and follow the instructions above. It's that easy.

Note: Capitalization does not matter when linking to new or existing pages. However, spelling does matter. Be sure that your link is titled and spelled correctly. For instance, notice that Pretty Girl Form Locuts links to nothing while Pretty Girl From Locust links correctly (because the first one is misspelled). Also notice how Traveling Song is a dead link whereas The Traveling Song links correctly, and notice the difference between A Carolina Jubilee and Carolina Jubilee.

Rules and Conventions

  • Please use the established in-text chord notation: (C)Not when I have a (D7)lover like you.
  • When editing a page, ALWAYS use the “preview” button before saving. Please be sure that you are finished editing before using “save.”
